A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has strongly criticised recent comments made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing his public statements as unnecessary and driven by frustration over internal party disagreements.
In a report published on Thursday, May 7, 2026, the group issued a statement through its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, rejecting Wike’s remarks and accusing him of making personal attacks rather than offering constructive contributions to political discourse. The faction argued that his media appearance reflected emotional anger over ongoing internal disputes within the party.
The statement further alleged that the minister has increasingly used public platforms to criticise and insult prominent Nigerians, saying such behaviour has become embarrassing and counterproductive. It claimed that Wike’s approach no longer adds value to national conversations or strengthens the party, despite the opportunities he has previously enjoyed within the political system.
Responding to discussions about leadership positions within the PDP, the faction also dismissed suggestions that Wike could assume the role of “National Leader” of the party. It clarified that the PDP constitution does not recognize such an office, making it impossible for anyone to occupy it.
In a pointed remark, the group stated that it sympathizes with Wike over what it described as his disappointment in realizing that he cannot become the party’s national leader, stressing that no such position exists in the party’s constitutional structure.
Overall, the response reflects ongoing tensions within the PDP, as different factions continue to clash over leadership influence, internal structure, and the conduct of key political figures within the party.
