According to a report by PM News on Friday 29th May 2026, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki has announced plans to hold a special convention on Saturday in Abuja to formally endorse former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
In a notice signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Emebong, and National Organising Secretary, Hon. Theophilus Dakas Shan, the faction said the event will take place at A-Class Event Centre in Wuse 2 at 10 a.m.
The group stated that the planned ratification follows what it described as a recent court decision affirming Jonathan’s eligibility to contest the 2027 election; It also recalled earlier claims that Jonathan had been adopted as the faction’s preferred candidate after a screening process that reportedly granted him a waiver.
Despite the announcement, the former president has not confirmed any intention to return to active politics or participate in the convention, leaving uncertainty over his candidacy.
