Human rights lawyer and former National Human Rights Commission chair, Chidi Odinkalu, has expressed concern over what he described as troubling signs of political impunity surrounding the announcement of Kingsley Chinda’s switch from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a post shared on his official X account on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Odinkalu pointed out an inconsistency in the timeline, noting that while the defection was publicly announced on June 2, the accompanying letter was reportedly dated April 23, 2026.
Chinda, who previously served as Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, was also announced as the APC governorship candidate for Rivers State following the reported resignation of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The development has generated significant public debate, with some observers suggesting external political influence behind the move. However, Odinkalu argued that the situation reflects a pattern he believes is increasingly associated with the APC in recent political events.
