BREAKING: Iran Says US ‘Trapped in War Quagmire’ and Seeking Humiliating Exit Strategy
According to a report by AFP News Agency on Saturday, April 25, 2026, Iran’s Defence Ministry has asserted that the United States is looking for a “face-saving” way to withdraw from the ongoing conflict, amid renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at ending hostilities.
In remarks carried by the Iranian Students’ News Agency, Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA), a spokesperson for the ministry said Iran’s military capabilities have shifted the balance on the battlefield, leaving Washington in a difficult position.
“Our military power today is a dominant force, and the enemy is seeking a face-saving way to escape the war quagmire it has become trapped in,” the spokesperson stated.
The comments come as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner travel to Pakistan for high-level discussions aimed at de-escalating tensions and exploring possible pathways to peace.
Pakistan has emerged as a key intermediary in the conflict, hosting indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington as both sides seek to avoid further escalation following weeks of military confrontation. Diplomatic sources say the talks are expected to focus on ceasefire arrangements, confidence-building measures, and broader regional stability.
However, Iranian state media has made it clear that Tehran is not prepared to engage in direct negotiations with the United States at this stage. Instead, Iran is continuing to communicate its positions through intermediaries, maintaining a cautious approach to diplomacy while keeping military pressure in place.
The Defence Ministry’s statement reflects a broader narrative within Iran’s leadership that the country has gained strategic leverage in the conflict. Officials have repeatedly pointed to Iran’s retaliatory strikes on U.S. military assets in the region as evidence of its capacity to respond decisively to external threats.
