According to a report by Al-Jazeera on Monday, June 1, 2026, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has dismissed widespread reports suggesting he intends to step down, insisting he remains fully committed to leading the country amid ongoing political pressure and what he described as coordinated misinformation campaigns.

During a cabinet meeting held on Sunday, Pezeshkian directly addressed the rumours, describing them as baseless and politically motivated; He reaffirmed that his administration is stable and will continue to function without interruption.

He stressed his determination to remain in office, declaring, “I will continue as long as I live,” while urging government officials to stay focused on national service and internal stability despite external narratives aimed at weakening public confidence.

The claims of a resignation reportedly stemmed from unverified media reports alleging that a resignation letter had been submitted to Iran’s Supreme Leader; However, Iranian government officials swiftly rejected the story, labelling it as false information intended to create confusion.

Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said the reports reflect a pattern of disinformation targeting the administration, particularly during politically sensitive periods.

She further noted that the president had carried out normal state duties, including chairing a cabinet meeting and attending a national sporting event, as evidence that governance continues without disruption.

Officials say the administration remains focused on economic pressures, public service delivery, and maintaining national unity despite growing external speculation.
