Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has made a significant public disclosure about his relationship with ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo while defending his record against corruption allegations during an interview on Arise TV.

The ADC presidential aspirant revealed what he described as unprecedented action by a sitting president.

“I’m saying this for the first time in public: that the president set up a panel to investigate a vice president, his own vice president who has immunity,” Atiku stated.

He outlined his business credentials prior to entering politics.

“Before I went into politics, I was already in business. I was in oil and gas logistics. I was in agriculture. I was in a number of economic sectors of the country,” the former vice president said.

Atiku then made bold claims about his role in establishing the PDP.

“I virtually set up PDP. I virtually funded it,” he asserted.

He used this background to challenge the credibility of corruption accusations.

“Why was I not being accused of corruption at that time?” Atiku asked rhetorically.

His comments suggest that corruption allegations emerged only after political disagreements with Obasanjo, implying they were politically motivated rather than evidence-based. The claim of having “virtually” founded and funded the PDP positions him as instrumental to the party’s creation, raising questions about why someone with such resources and commitment would suddenly become corrupt only upon assuming public office.
