Delta Central Senator, Ede Dafinone, has urged Nigeria’s political class to move beyond “endless diagnosis” of governance failures and focus on practical solutions that deliver real benefits to citizens.
He warned that electoral victories mean little without measurable outcomes.
Speaking at the 2026 Advocate Lecture Series in Ughelli, Delta State, themed “From Ballot to Patronage: Why Electoral Victory Fails to Deliver Good Governance in Nigeria,” Dafinone called for systemic reform ahead of 2027, while defending the economic reforms by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
“I am always glad when conversations like this move beyond identifying problems to offering real solutions. It is easy to talk about what is wrong, but far more important to focus on how we can fix it,” he said.
Framing the debate around public expectations, the Senator warned that Nigeria’s democratic process risks losing legitimacy if electoral success continued to fall short of improving citizens’ lives.
