Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a sharp attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing deteriorating security conditions and a deepening economic crisis as evidence of governance failure.

His remarks, released through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, took particular aim at the presidency’s recent attempt to frame Nigeria’s debt figures in a positive light.

Atiku argued that celebrating debt statistics while millions of Nigerians struggle to afford basic meals reflects a troubling disconnect between government and the harsh realities facing ordinary citizens.

He painted a grim picture of daily life across the country, describing road travel as increasingly life-threatening and noting that many families now live in constant fear of their loved ones being kidnapped.

He went further to say that paying ransoms has become as commonplace for many households as settling school fees or rent.

The former Vice President also linked the security crisis directly to food shortages, arguing that persistent attacks by armed groups have driven farmers off their land, causing a sharp drop in agricultural output that has in turn fueled hunger and soaring food prices.

While conceding that government borrowing is not inherently wrong, Atiku maintained that Nigeria’s current debt burden has yielded little visible improvement in the lives of citizens.

He rounded off his criticism by accusing the administration of prioritizing spin over substance, and called for immediate, concrete action to halt what he described as a dangerous slide in both security and economic conditions.
