Fresh revelations have surfaced concerning the ongoing political face-off between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, with indications that the governor allegedly lost the backing of President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress due to unresolved issues surrounding reconciliation agreements.

According to Sunday PUNCH, APC sources familiar with efforts to broker peace between Fubara and Wike disclosed that the relationship between the governor and the ruling party became strained after he was accused of failing to adhere to certain terms agreed upon during settlement discussions.

The political conflict between Fubara and Wike, who currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has remained a major issue in Rivers State politics and continued to attract the intervention of influential figures within the APC.

An anonymous member of the APC National Working Committee reportedly stated that the party leadership declined to officially welcome Fubara into the APC after his defection because he allegedly did not have Wike’s endorsement and support.

The source further claimed that some APC leaders may have given Fubara false assurances by making him believe that he already had the backing of the ruling party.

He stated, “Even on this ongoing governorship matter, I am aware the party leadership told him that the Presidency and the Governors’ Forum were not on his side but he didn’t care. Fubara had even told some party officials that he would not attend the governorship screening exercise, only for him to appear before the screening committee in Abuja.”
