Former presidential aide and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Lauretta Onochie, has reacted to the resignation of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, from the party, insisting that his departure was already anticipated.

Onochie made the comments on her official X handle on Monday, June 1, 2026, shortly after Lawal confirmed that he had left the ADC, a party he joined months earlier with claims that it offered a more credible platform for national development and political reform.

According to her, recent political movements within the opposition space already made Lawal’s exit predictable. She referenced earlier high-profile defections involving Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, suggesting that such developments had already shaped expectations within the party leadership and membership.

She stated clearly: “After Obi and Kwankwaso left, we knew he would be next.”

Lawal, a former ally within the political structure of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had earlier aligned himself with the ADC, expressing optimism that the party could serve as a strong opposition force and a viable alternative for governance in Nigeria. However, his resignation has now sparked fresh conversations about loyalty, party stability, and internal cohesion within emerging political platforms.

Onochie further recalled earlier political alignments involving Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during their time in the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), noting that political realignments and shifting alliances have long been a consistent feature of Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

She maintained that observers who have closely followed the political trajectories of key figures in the ADC should not be surprised by Lawal’s decision to step away, describing it as part of a broader and recurring pattern of defections that continues to shape the country’s political environment.

Favor As Higher Power?

(The hidden truth)

Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
