BREAKING: Tension in Bauchi APC as Aggrieved Members Dump Party

According to a report by The Vanguard on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, a major crisis has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State following the recently concluded primary elections for the 2027 general elections.
Aggrieved stakeholders and key lawmakers are dumping the party in numbers, citing a total lack of internal democracy, manipulation, and the forced imposition of candidates.
The internal rift widened significantly after former Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar was declared the party’s governorship candidate.
Disgruntled members claim no democratic primary elections took place. Instead, they alleged that top party leaders orchestrated a “selection and vote allocation” process to handpick preferred aspirants.
Before the final announcement, prominent governorship aspirant Senator Shehu Buba Umar withdrew from the race, pointing to clear plans to compromise the process.
Several political groups within the state have also accused high-ranking leaders, including the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and former Governor Isa Yuguda, of influencing the selection of the governorship ticket.
The fallout has triggered a wave of high-profile resignations across the state. Hon. Rabilu Bala Kashuri, the lawmaker representing Jama’are/Itas-Gadau Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, officially resigned from the party in a letter dated May 21, 2026.
Kashuri, who failed to secure his re-election ticket, stated that his departure followed careful reflection.
Similarly, Katagum Federal Constituency aspirant, Tijjani Mohammed Aliyu, and a prominent party chieftain, Abubakar Dahuwa Abdulkadir, have surrendered their membership.
Aliyu openly slammed the primaries, stating they were deeply marred by pre-determined results and direct violations of party guidelines, which completely compromised the values of the APC.
