BREAKING: PDP in Turmoil as Factions Clash Over Makinde’s “Operation Wetie” Comment

According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Monday 26th April 2026, Tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have resurfaced after Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde referenced the historic phrase “Operation Wetie” while speaking at a political summit in Ibadan.

Makinde used the term while warning that Nigeria must avoid drifting into a one-party system, stressing that political exclusion and suppression of opposition voices could lead to serious instability, similar to past crises in the Western Region.

A faction of the PDP aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, led by the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee, strongly criticised the governor’s comment.

The group argued that referencing “Wetie” could be seen as inciting violence and insisted that such language has no place in today’s democratic environment. It also urged security agencies to look into the matter.

In contrast, the Tanimu Turaki-led PDP faction defended Makinde, saying his comments were not a call for violence but a warning based on historical lessons.

According to them, the governor only highlighted the dangers of political greed, exclusion, and growing tensions in the country, especially under the current political climate.

They also accused the ruling APC of worsening political divisions and failing to learn from history.

Favor As Higher Power?

(The hidden truth)

Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
