Former Super Eagles forward Obinna Nsofor has told Victor Osimhen to seek a summer exit from Galatasaray, saying a move to a genuine UEFA Champions League contender is the final step needed to cement his place among Europe’s elite strikers.

Nsofor, who helped Nigeria win Olympic silver in 2008, praised Osimhen’s achievements in Turkey but insisted the 27-year-old must now aim higher.

“Victor Osimhen has done enough at Galatasaray. If he truly wants to become the best striker in the world, then he must move to a club that can compete seriously for the UEFA Champions League. Right now, the only thing separating him from the very top is winning at the highest level in Europe,” Nsofor tells Brila FM.

“Galatasaray is a big club, nobody can deny that, but when you talk about clubs expected to win the UEFA Champions League, they are not among the favourites. Osimhen is already at the level where he should be competing with the very best strikers every single season.”

Osimhen has delivered a prolific two-year spell in Istanbul, scoring 59 goals in 74 matches and winning three trophies. He sealed a fourth straight league title last weekend with a brace in a 4-2 win over Antalyaspor and has posted 15 goals and five assists in 22 league games this season.

The striker first captured global attention at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, later shining at Lille before leading Napoli to a historic Serie A triumph in 2022/23 as top scorer and finishing eighth in the Ballon d’Or.

Interest ahead of the transfer window is growing, with Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona all linked.

Meanwhile, Benfica manager, Jose Mourinho, is reportedly in talks over a return to Real Madrid. Naija News reports that the Portuguese tactician would prioritise the signing of Osimhen if he becomes the coach of the Spanish giants. Mourinho once likened the Nigeria international to Didier Drogba after facing him while managing AS Roma.

Osimhen’s transfer to Chelsea collapsed in 2024, and the forward rejected a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia before joining Galatasaray.
