Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has defended Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani against allegations of interference in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, insisting that the governor did not dictate the outcome of the exercise.

Speaking during an interview with Arise News on the fallout from the party’s recent primaries, Sani dismissed claims that Governor Uba Sani imposed candidates or influenced delegates’ decisions. He argued that the governor maintained neutrality throughout the process despite efforts to build consensus among aspirants.

“Many governors openly tell delegates who to vote for, but Uba Sani refused to do that” Sani said while responding to allegations that the governor’s camp predetermined the results.

The former lawmaker maintained that the primaries were conducted in accordance with APC guidelines and that delegates freely exercised their voting rights. According to him, aspirants who lost the contests should accept the outcome and seek redress through the party’s appeal mechanisms rather than taking their grievances to the media.

Sani noted that Governor Uba Sani brought aspirants together before the primaries in an attempt to foster unity and encourage consensus arrangements. However, he said some contestants opted for competitive elections, which ultimately produced winners and losers.

He further challenged critics to provide any evidence showing the governor publicly endorsing a preferred candidate or directing delegates on how to vote.

The APC chieftain argued that electoral defeat is a normal part of politics, pointing out that several prominent politicians across the country, including former governors, senators and ministers, lost during the party’s primaries.

Despite the lingering complaints from some aspirants, Sani expressed confidence that the APC would remain united ahead of the 2027 elections and retain its political strength in Kaduna State.
