According to a report by Metro on Thursday, May 28, 2026, Manchester United have submitted an offer for Danilo as the club continue efforts to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new season.
United are preparing for significant changes in midfield this summer, with Casemiro expected to leave Old Trafford. The club have reportedly made signing at least two midfielders a top priority as new manager Michael Carrick looks to reshape his squad.
Several names have already been linked with the Premier League giants, including Elliot Anderson, Aurelien Tchouameni, Carlos Baleba, Sandro Tonali and Adam Wharton.
United are also close to completing a £38 million move for Ederson from Atalanta, with reports suggesting personal terms have already been agreed between the player and the club.
However, attention has now turned to another Brazilian midfielder, with reports in Brazil claiming Manchester United are among four clubs to have made offers for Danilo. Italian giants AC Milan, Atalanta and Zenit Saint Petersburg are also said to be interested in the 25-year-old.
Danilo currently plays for Botafogo, who are reportedly reluctant to rush into a decision over his future. The Brazilian side are believed to be waiting to see whether his value increases further during this summer’s FIFA World Cup after he was selected in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad.
Brazilian clubs Palmeiras and Flamengo are also monitoring the situation, although Danilo is understood to favour a return to European football.
The midfielder previously spent two seasons in the Premier League with Nottingham Forest after joining the club in 2023 in an £18 million transfer.
Danilo made 34 appearances during his first campaign at the City Ground before suffering a serious ankle injury on the opening day of the 2024-25 season.
He eventually returned midway through the campaign to help Forest secure a seventh-place finish before completing a £21 million move to Botafogo.
While United continue discussions over Ederson, Nottingham Forest midfielder Anderson reportedly remains Carrick’s preferred midfield target, although the England international is believed to favour a move to Manchester City instead.
