According to a report by The Nation on Saturday 25th April 2026, former Governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has formally declared his intention to run for the Kaduna North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

The ex-governor made the announcement on Friday via his Facebook page, citing mounting pressure and strong appeals from constituents as the driving force behind his decision.

Yero said he was “deeply honoured” by the confidence reposed in him by the people of the district, adding that he is ready to answer the call to serve.

“After wide consultations and encouragement from the good people of Kaduna North, I have accepted to contest for the Senate seat; This is a responsibility I embrace with humility and dedication,” he stated.

He revealed that his declaration followed a strategic meeting with local government chairmen from the district, who unanimously endorsed his candidacy during a solidarity visit.

Describing the endorsement as a reflection of unity and shared vision, Yero assured constituents of his commitment to effective representation and people-oriented leadership.

The former governor also acknowledged the contributions of the incumbent governor, Uba Sani, praising his efforts in fostering stability and development across the state.
