A chieftain of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has called on the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to publicly address what he described as discrepancies in the names appearing on documents allegedly submitted during his academic and political career.

Arabambi made the remarks during an interview on News Central on Sunday, where he challenged Obi to respond to the allegations instead of claiming that he is being politically targeted.

“Mr. Peter, stop complaining that people are after you. Come and declare your identity. We want to know whether you actually committed perjury,” Arabambi said. Favor As Higher Power? According to him, there are alleged inconsistencies in the names Obi used in documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as well as forms completed during his university years and within the Labour Party.

Arabambi claimed that Obi used four different names in various documents and argued that the former Anambra State governor should provide an explanation to the public.

He further alleged that Obi was once detained in London over an impersonation-related matter, although he did not provide evidence to support the claim during the interview.

The Labour Party chieftain also disclosed that he had directed his supporters to petition the Nigeria Police Force to investigate whether Obi had committed any offence in the past that could explain the alleged differences in his names.

Arabambi urged the former presidential candidate to step aside from contesting the 2027 general election until the identity issues he raised are addressed.

He maintained that the public deserves clarity on the matter, saying Obi should defend himself against the allegations rather than dismiss them as political persecution.

Peter Obi has consistently denied wrongdoing in previous allegations made against him and has repeatedly maintained that he remains committed to lawful and transparent political engagement. As of the time of filing this report, he had not publicly responded to Arabambi’s latest remarks.
