In an interview on Symfoni TV, on Thursday, July 9, 2026, during the 2023 general election, Abayomi Arabambi, who was a member of the Labour Party National Working Committee (NWC) under the Julius Abure group, spoke about campaign finance and political donations.

While discussing the financing of opposition campaigns, he made reference to remarks he said were made by former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson.

With political players providing conflicting versions of how different presidential campaigns were funded, questions surrounding campaign finances have continued to create popular interest, according to Arabambi.

He maintained that increasing public trust in elections requires continued openness regarding political finance.

Speaking during the interview, Arabambi stated, “Seriake Dickson said, ‘They did not collect one naira from Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.'” He made the remark while discussing what he described as statements concerning financial contributions during the 2023 election cycle.

If we want accountability in Nigeria’s political process, he says, we need to be transparent about campaign finance. The sources and handling of campaign funds should be openly disclosed, he insisted, by both political parties and candidates.

The leader of the Labour Party went on to say that transparency in campaign finance and credible voting are two factors that contribute to the public’s trust in elections. Reducing speculation and strengthening faith in political institutions, he argued, would be possible with more openness.

Last but not least, Arabambi emphasised that accountability must continue to be at the core of Nigerian politics, calling on all parties and leaders to be open and honest during the election process.
