BREAKING NEWS: Atiku Banks On Mega Coalition For 2027 Victory

Published

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has signalled a bold new path to the presidency ahead of 2027, revealing plans to ride on a powerful cross-party coalition to clinch Nigeria’s top job.

In an interview on Arise TV, the veteran politician expressed confidence that a broader alliance cutting across major political parties would give him a decisive edge.

“Now, we have a broader coalition, a combination of APC, PDP, and LP, which gives me a better chance of becoming president in 2027,” he said.

After multiple presidential bids under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku appears to be rewriting his political playbook, shifting from a traditional party-based approach to a coalition-driven strategy. Having finished as runner-up in both the 2019 and 2023 elections, his latest move suggests a calculated attempt to break the cycle.

Atiku’s coalition pitch comes as Nigeria’s political terrain grows increasingly fragmented, with major contenders emerging from the All Progressives Congress (APC), PDP, and the Labour Party (LP).

Analysts say this fragmentation could work in his favour. A divided opposition has historically split votes, creating an opening for a candidate capable of uniting diverse blocs or capitalising on internal cracks. While supporters hail the coalition idea, critics argue that alliances alone will not win elections without strong grassroots appeal and clear policy direction.

Still, Atiku’s latest declaration underscores a shifting political reality: in 2027, victory may depend less on party strength and more on building the smartest alliance. As the race gradually takes shape, Atiku is doubling down on his ambition.
