‘Super simple’ avocado hack ‘might change your life’ so you ‘never waste an avocado again’

Avocados have become increasingly popular over the years thanks to their versatility and excellent health benefits, however, if you’re a fan of the fruit you might notice they go off rather quickly. “I am sharing avocado hacks so you never have to waste an avocado again,” she said in her video.

“Avocados are a superfood. They are full of healthy fats and lots of nutrition and personally I eat them almost every single day,” she continued.

“There are so many things you can do with avocados. But let’s be real, they’re not the cheapest and the minute that they ripen you have to eat them right away because the next day they are pretty much done for.”

You might also notice that if you use half of your avocado, and pop the other half in the fridge, it can turn brown within a day.

Over the years, Kayla has tried a series of techniques over the years to try and keep her avocados fresh for longer. And one trick, in particular, lends the help of another low-cost fruit that you might already have in your fridge.

She explained: “All you have to do is squirt a little bit or brush a little bit of lemon juice onto the avocado half, put it in a glass container, into the refrigerator and you’re good to go.”

The reason lemon juice does the trick is thanks to its acidity. The acid found in lemon juice can decrease the pH of avocados and lower enzymatic activity, in turn stopping the green parts of the fruit from turning brown.

If you want to take things a step further, you can also pop your avocado into an airtight container in the fridge. Keeping the avocado in an airtight container will also help to slow down the oxidisation process by limiting the fruit’s exposure to fresh air.
