According to a report by Vanguard , on Sunday May 24, 2026, Bola Tinubu has cautioned Nigerians against supporting politicians without clear ideas and direction for the country, stating that the nation should not be allowed to return to past difficulties.

The President made the remarks on Sunday in Abuja after officially receiving the certificate of return and party flag as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking before party leaders, delegates and supporters at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, the President said his administration remains focused on continuing the reforms already introduced since he assumed office.

According to him, the goal is to place Nigeria on a stronger and more stable path over the next four years.

Tinubu stated that his administration would continue working toward economic reforms, national development and long-term policies aimed at improving the future of the country.

He explained that the efforts currently being made by his government are designed to create lasting progress for Nigerians and strengthen the nation’s institutions.

The President stressed that his administration is determined to work harder in order to achieve the level of national growth and stability many citizens have hoped for over the years.

He also assured party supporters that the APC remains committed to implementing programmes that would secure the country’s future and improve living conditions for citizens across different sectors.

During the event, the President also addressed the outcome of the APC presidential primary election, where he emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election with 10.9 million votes.

He congratulated one of his challengers in the primary, Stanley Osifo, for accepting the result of the exercise peacefully.

Osifo, a businessman from Edo State, participated in the contest after reportedly purchasing the APC presidential nomination form for one hundred million naira.

He eventually secured 16,503 votes during the primary election.

Tinubu acknowledged his participation in the democratic process and stated that he had no personal disagreement with him despite the political contest.

The President also used the occasion to speak about democracy, political opposition and the importance of tolerance in governance.

According to him, democracy is strengthened through the existence of different opinions and ideas rather than complete agreement among citizens and political groups.

Tinubu explained that disagreement among political parties and individuals should not be viewed as a threat to the country but as part of democratic development.

He stated that his administration remains open to dialogue and engagement with critics, opposition figures and those who may disagree with the policies of the government.

According to him, the APC and his administration would continue to rely on discussion and democratic engagement instead of hostility when dealing with opposing views.

Tinubu further stressed that the government would allow its performance and policies to speak for themselves over time.

He noted that many reforms introduced by the administration are aimed at addressing long-standing economic and structural challenges affecting the country.

Although some of the reforms have generated debate among citizens and political groups, the President maintained that the government believes they are necessary for national progress and long-term stability.

He assured supporters that the administration remains focused on delivering results through governance, infrastructure development, economic growth and institutional reforms designed to strengthen Nigeria’s future.

He said, “You may be angry with our party; we don’t have to agree. Democracy is sustained not by uniformity but by diversity, by a shared belief in the nation, and the blending of ideas.”
