In a recent video shared on Monday, June 1, 2027, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose appeared on Channels Television, where he reflected on Nigeria’s past and present electoral contests, focusing on the dynamics between major political figures and how opposition fragmentation has shaped recent outcomes.

During the interview, Fayose revisited the 2023 presidential election and the political competition involving key contenders such as Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He argued that the opposition entered the race with strong individual forces but lacked unity at critical moments that could have altered the electoral outcome.

Speaking during the conversation, Fayose stated, “When Obi, Atiku, and BAT contested, it was a major three-horse race, and BAT had his way.” He used the remark to emphasize his belief that the division among the top contenders made it easier for Tinubu to secure victory in a highly competitive election.

According to Fayose, Nigerian elections are often determined not just by popularity, but by strategy, coordination, and the ability of political actors to consolidate support across regions. He maintained that when opposition candidates split into separate camps, they weaken their overall electoral strength, even if individually they command significant followings.
