Manchester United have formally submitted a bid to acquire Brazilian midfielder Danilo from Botafogo, as the club pushes ahead with an ambitious plan to rebuild their engine room ahead of a return to Champions League football as reported by Givemesport on Thursday May 28, 2026

The Red Devils are one of four European clubs to have approached Botafogo over the 25-year-old, with AC Milan, Atalanta and Russian club Zenit St Petersburg also lodging offers.

However, the South American outfit is believed to be holding firm on their valuation, expecting his market worth to rise following his inclusion in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Despite domestic interest from Flamengo and Palmeiras, the former Nottingham Forest player is understood to prefer a return to European football.

The pursuit of Danilo forms part of a sweeping midfield transformation under Michael Carrick, who guided United to a third-place Premier League finish after victories over Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Aston Villa during his caretaker tenure. Club chiefs have since pledged full backing in the transfer window.

Casemiro’s departure is confirmed when his contract expires next month, while Manuel Ugarte also looks set to exit following two underwhelming seasons. With potentially three midfield positions to fill, United are casting their net wide.

Fabrizio Romano has reported United are “very close” to signing Atalanta’s Ederson, while Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United has also emerged as a priority target, with Carrick said to have personally requested the Italy international.

Newcastle are reportedly demanding around £86 million for the midfielder. United are targeting several deals before the World Cup begins on June 11.
