According to a report by Football London, on Wednesday 3 June, 2026, Chelsea have reportedly suffered an early setback in their search for a new goalkeeper after seeing a £43 million bid for Roma star Mile Svilar rejected.
The Blues are expected to make several changes to their squad this summer as Xabi Alonso prepares to take charge ahead of the 2026/27 season.
One area under particular scrutiny is the goalkeeping department, where uncertainty remains over the futures of both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen.
According to reports from Italy, Chelsea identified Svilar as a priority target and submitted an offer worth around £43 million.
However, Roma quickly turned down the proposal, making it clear that they are reluctant to part with one of their most important players.
Svilar enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign in Serie A and established himself as one of the division’s top goalkeepers.

Despite rejecting Chelsea’s opening bid, Roma may yet face pressure to sell before the end of June.
