1. Pacific Salmon

After swimming thousands of kilometres to spawn, Pacific salmon lay eggs in freshwater rivers. Once they reproduce, their bodies shut down, and they die soon after.

2. Octopus

Female octopuses protect their eggs until they hatch. During this time, they stop eating and eventually die from exhaustion and starvation.

3. Praying Mantis

In some cases, the female praying mantis eats the male after mating. This act provides her with the energy needed to produce eggs, but she dies soon after laying them.

4. Male Marsupial Mouse (Antechinus)

Male Antechinus mates continuously for up to two weeks, using all his energy. After the mating season, stress and exhaustion kill him.

5. Mayfly

Mayflies have very short adult lives. After mating and laying eggs, they die within 24 hours.
