Overnight, the water is exposed to open air, which allows dust, small particles, and even microorganisms to settle in. Your room may appear clean, but invisible bacteria and germs can easily make their way into the glass.
Another issue is that when water sits uncovered for hours, it can lose its fresh taste and slightly change in composition. The carbon dioxide in the air can dissolve into the water, making it less pure and sometimes giving it a flat or stale taste.
Also, if you happened to sip from the glass before sleeping, bacteria from your mouth could transfer into the water, multiply overnight, and increase the risk of minor infections or stomach upset.
A better and safer choice is to keep water in a covered container or a bottle with a lid. That way, you can still enjoy hydration during the night without worrying about germs or contamination. Staying healthy also means being cautious about even the small habits we often overlook.
